Duration: 01. 01. 2009 - 31. 12. 2011
New polymer precursors for ceramic fibre composites with pyrolysed matrix will be developed. As precursors,
resins based on siloxane with varying content of carbon per silicon will be studied. Also oxygen-free
carbosilanes, silazanes, boron containing siloxanes and their copolymers will be investigated in order to design
an optimal precursor with good technological parameters in the polymer state and also with thermally stable
amorphous structure and oxidation stability in the pyrolysed state. Composite materials consisting of such
precursors and ceramic fibres Nextel 720 will be made by pyrolysis up to 1000°C. Their properties relevant to
the intended high temperature applications (thermal stability of microstructure, oxidation resistance,
mechanical properties up to 1400°C, fracture toughness) will be investigated. Also fractographic analysis will
help to optimize the processing parameters of the composite manufacture.
