Implementation of the hydrological model SWIM (Soil and Water Integrated Model) in the upper Vltava basin

  • Identification: KJB300600602 - Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 2006 - 2008
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Romana Košková PhD.

Subject of research

Evaluation of the impact of predicted climate change and basin management on runoff formation and water quality represents the aim of the project. The hydrological cycle and water quality changes will be simulated in 3 selected basins using different regional scenarios of climate change, evolution of vegetation cover and land-use. The distributed hydrological model ´Soil and Water Integrated Model´ (developed in Germany for modelling in the central European conditions and still innovated) is chosen as a suitable modelling tool. Simultaneously the proposal aims at assessment of the feasibility to simulate the Labe basin as a unified area. It is coupled with the GIS GRASS; this enables full integration of spatial distributed characteristics into calculations. The base of the process is area division into hydrotops – units with the uniform vegetation cover and soil characteristics. The proposal interrelates to the integration of the methodological approaches in the EU.
