Simulation of processes with impacts to water quality in reservoir systém

  • Identification: GA103/03/0469 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 2003 - 2005
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Martin Růžička CSc.
  • Co-investigator: Ing. Josef Hejzlar CSc. (Hydrobiological Institute ASCR)

Subject of research

The project objective is adaptation of the management of Lipno- Hněvkovice -Orlík-Slapy water reservoir system to the variability of external conditions, determining optimum methods of the water system utilization and detection of pollution limits andthreshold values of crucial quantities. Significant processes and quantities in the reservoir system basin shall be determined and the impact of those values on water quality in individual reservoirs of the system shall be quantified. Water quality inreservoirs and connecting river sections shall be simulated using dynamic two-dimensional CE-QUAL-W2 model. Based on analysis of partial basin characteristics, the hydrological data and data on quality of water running off to channel or reservoir shallbe acquired from the precipitation and run-off model. Within the project, simulations shall be performed using a 20-year data series after model optimization to determine the impact of external conditions variability on the reservoir system, and besides

Research Goal

The project aims were achieved. The main result is optimized and calibrated 2-D mathematical model of hydrodynamics and water quality of the Vltava River reservoir. Collection of data was completed describing terrain morphology, reservoir bathymetry, hyd
