Refugia, Migration and Entrance Points. I. Review of Old Problems

Ložek V.

The knowledge and ideas of the generation of botany specialists from the periods between the two world wars and after the Second World War on plant and animal migration, as well as on the origins of relicts and refugia, were based mainly on estimates based on knowledge at that time regarding their distribution and ecology. Other factors were not taken into account due to limited data regarding their functions or simply because they were not known. Attention was primarily focused on thermophile vegetation in the Pannonian and Carpathian regions.
