In Search of the Red Books Plants 5. Carpathian Endemics

Čeřovský J.

The Carpathians are the second most important mountain range in Europe. Of the native flora, counting approximately 4 000 vascular plant species, 239 are considered to be endemic. Among them are: Carpathian Kotschy's alpenrose heaths (Rhododendron kotschyi), Carpathian bellflower (Campanula carpatica), Slovak Pasque flower (Pulsatilla slavica), a microendemic of the Slovakian Karst and the adjacent Hungarian Aggteleki National Park Turna golden drop (Onosma tornensis), and Transylvanian Hepatica or liverleaf (Hepatica transsilvanica).
