Recovery of Silver Fir

Skořepa H.

The decrease in abundance of silver fir (Abies alba) in Central Europe might be connected with changes in forest management, namely with the end of forest pasture, which was used until the 19th century and which, by limiting the competition of other plants, supported the regeneration of the fir. In order to increase the percentage of this woody species in our forests again, it is necessary to provide support to natural regeneration and the protection of artificially planted trees against the browsing of hoofed game.
