Nobody else has influenced the development of natural sciences for such a long period as Carl von Linné (1707–1778). In spite of the fact that progress in taxonomy leads to certain doubts about the principles which Linné introduced into natural sciences, his intellectual legacy is still alive and the basis of his research, i.e. terms for natural phenomena, still influences scientific nomenclature.
