Grass vegetation in deforested areas, frequently considered by foresters to be a weed, plays an important positive role in such habitats. Grasses take from the environment a large amount of nitrogenous substances which originate from precipitations and accumulate them in their biomass, as well as in undecayed waste. Grasses thus reduce the acidity of soil solutions and leaching of basic cations from the soil. Moreover, the rapid renovation of vegetation after habitat destruction results in fewer nutrient losses in ecosystems.
