Cyanobacteria Toxins and Metabolism of Autotrophic Organisms

Maršálek B.

Cyanobacteria produce toxic and other biologically active cyanotoxins in addition to other substances. The most common group comprises microcystins from the dominant cyanobacteria of water flowers, especially of the genera Microcystis, Planktothrix and Nostoc. Research results have shown that the impact of cyanotoxins on autotrophic organisms in terms of their toxic effects is comparable to their already well studied impact on animals and man.
