Terrapins Threaten Waterfowl Nesting

Pešat J.

A rare observation of interactions among some North American Red-eared Sliders (Trachemys elegans) and nesting Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus) and Eurasian Coots (Fulica atra) at the Olešná Water Reservoir near Frýdek-Místek (North Moravia). The terrapins which are non-native to the Czech Republic tried to use waterfowl nests for sun-bathing and disturbing nesting pairs. Information on current state of the art is added.
