Transient Effects in Creep at Conditions Leading to Very Low Strain Rates

Strains reached in conventional creep experiments are obviously in the order of percents, and they are associated with dislocation substructure development toward dynamic equilibrium state which is characteristic for steady state creep with more or less constant strain rate. Though creep curves recorded at very small strains are similar in shape to that at conventional experiments, mechanism of transitional "primary" stage must be different, since the strains are not sufficient for changes in
dislocation structure. Explanation of this effect is still missing and also experimental data are rather rare and insufficient. Aim of this project is to collect experimental data on transient stages in various high temperature materials and draw general conclusions about mechanisms of very low
creep strain rates.
