NON-DESTRUCTIVE ARCHAEOLOGY

 

DEFINITION

Non-destructive archaeology is a term used to indicate archaeological research that obtain information about buried features of historic or prehistoric date by means other than excavation, which do not physically disturb the archaeological situation of finds and contexts.

 

Among the most important methods of non-destructive archaeological survey are:

AERIAL ARCHAEOLOGY AND REMOTE SURVEY
SURFACE SURVEY (COLLECTION, MAPPING)
GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTION / MEASUREMENT
 
        With certain reservations, the use of metal detectors can be included among these methods.
