Comparative study of surface fracture of polymer and other materials in selected forming processes

  • Identification: 106/94/0918 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1994 - 1996
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Otakar Bartoš CSc. (Faculty of Technology, Technical University)
  • Principal investigator: Petr Filip CSc.

Subject of Research

Processing of polymer and ceramic materials, pastes, and foods in extrusion and calendering often accompanied with surface instabilities will be analyzed by a method of digital data processing. Using fractal approach, the unifying - material and process invariant - characteristics describing surface quality will be determined.

Research Goals

  • to adapt a method of digital image processing for analyzing surface irregularities/defects in extrusion and calendering of polymers, pastes, and ceramic materials;
  • unification of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of surface instabilities for the cases above based on fractal analysis of digitized visualization;
  • experimental verification of unified fractal criteria quantifying surface instabilities
