The main objective of the SHEAR project is to formulate a theoretical fundaments for engineering design of open channels and river networks that is based on considering of most environmental requirements. A required balance in aquatic environment can be achieved only by broad diversity of parameters of all kinds involved in the system (biosphere, aquatic systems, human being river network building activity). That is why the project is focused on change of flow conditions and related sediment transport because the phenomena is responsible for most of the changes in the nature in time. The team of researches is carefully chosen in order to cover all aspects of suggested research activity in specified fields; it is, however expected that the research activity wil1 be combined type of investigation using results of scale modelling, mathematical simulations provided by software tools and field measurements. Combined type of research enable the members of research team to evaluate new method using calibration sets measured by the colleagues under the same conditions. The team will focus mainly on velocity fields and their changes due to the bed resistance variety, sediment transport behaviour and macro roughness effects. Described hydrodynamlc system in channels and rivers can be characterised as complex and very complicated that is influenced by sediment transport load. Sediment material is identified as a pollution carrier in many cases. All the research activities will be carried out under the framework of revitalisation of rivers.
