Ultrafine-grained (UFG) materials have emerged as a new class of materials with unusual microstructures, mechanical, physical and chemical properties compared with conventional coarse-grained materials. Research regarding UFG materials is considered as a matter of scientific and industrial importance worldwide. Equal-channel angular processing (ECAP) has become an important technique for refining grain size in metals. The ECAP technology has been used effectively to produce UFG materials with better strength at lower temperatures and faster strain rate. Despite the current interest in UFG materials there have been no systematic study on their creep behaviour. However, a good understanding of mechanisms of creep deformation and damage processes could be most valuable in the further design and processing of UFG materials. Thus, the main objective of the project is description and explanation of creep behaviour and operating mechanisms in selected UFG metals and alloys.
