Diffusion of iron in advanced Fe-base bulk metallic glasses
Investigator: Mgr. Ivo Stloukal, Dr.
Number of Project: 106/08/1241
Agency: Czech Science Foundation
Duration: 01. 01. 2008 - 31. 12. 2010
The aim of the present project is to obtain the diffusion characteristics of the radioisotope 59Fe in Fe-based bulk metallic glasses, described by general formula Fe-[EM]-[ML], where EM stands for chosen elements from IVb to VIb group and ML for chosen elements from IIIa to Va group of the periodic table. The study of microstructure using the optical microscopy (SEM, TEM, XRD) and the evaluation of the glass transition and crystallization temperature using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) will precede the diffusion measurements. The diffusion characteristics – the activation enthalpy and the pre-exponential factor – will be evaluated from the temperature dependence of the obtained diffusion coefficients. The obtained results may be utilized for optimization of the production technology and for the development of new perspective metallic glasses.
