The role of Fe, Nb and Mo diffusivity in structure stability of FINEMET and NANOPERM – type alloys

The aim of the proposed project is to obtain experimental data that may be used for quantification of the inhibiting role of Nb and Mo upon the rate of crystalization of Fe-Si-Nb-B, Fe-Nb and Fe-Mo-B type nanoscaled alloys. This process is directly connected with the structural stability, or, in other words, with the rate of functional degradation of FINEMET and NANOPERM family of nanoscaled materials. Tracer diffusion characteristics of 59Fe will be measured in model convention-sized two-phase polycrystals of the (Fe80Si20)100-xNbx and Fe100-xNbx (x = 0, 0.5, and 1.7 ) and in Fe2Nb phase itself. Interdiffusion will be studied using diffusion couples made of two various alloys from epsilon phase of Fe-Nb equilibrium diagram. 99Mo diffusion will be studied in an amorphous Fe-Mo-B ribons both in as-received state and in temperature treated (partialy crystallized) state. This study gives the relation between the rate of Mo redistribution (and, hence, the rate of structural degradation) on one hand and the stage of crystalization on the other hand for the chosen alloy that makes a base for NANOPERM - type alloy.
