Damage development in thermally shocked fibre reinforced borosilicate glass matrix composite
Investigator: prof. Ing. Ivo Dlouhý, CSc.
Number of Project: ME 312
Agency: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports
Duration: 01. 01. 1999 - 31. 12. 1999
The objective of the project is to investigate the degradation of the fracture resistance and toughness of SiC-fibre reinforced glass matrix composite materials after thermal loading, including thermal shock. It is necessary to assess whether the chevron-notched specimen technique, which has been shown to deliver reliable data for monolithic and particle reinforced brittle matrix composites, is also suited for fibre reinforced materials. Commercially available SiC - Nicalon fibre reinforced borosilicate glass matrix composites are being investigated. Work is carried out within collaboration with University of Ilmenau, Germany.
