Soil water dynamics and its impact on runoff generation in headwater basins of the Czech Republic

  • Identification: GA205/05/2312 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 2005 - 2007
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Miroslav Tesař CSc.
  • Co-investigator: Prof. Ing. Tomáš Vogel CSc. (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech
    Technical University)

Subject of research

Detailed explanation oftherelationshipbetween soil water content and runoff generation at the scale of local profile, individual hillslope, and small headwater basin, considering the effects of preferential flow and discontinuous flow. The objectives of the project will be achieved by means of the following research activities: (1) Monitoring meteorological and hydrological processes at the selected experimental sites; Establishing database of measured state variables facilitating process based quantification of the impact of soil water dynamics on runoff generation. (2) Determination of soil hydraulic properties by means of inverse optimization using both field and laboratory experiments. (3) Numerical modeling of rainfall-runoff relationship at the local scale (subsurface recharge generation), hillslope scale (two-dimensional hillslope section) and catchment scale. The solution will také into account the preferentiat flow effects (using the concept of dual-porosity) and discontinuous

Research Goal

Obtained results explain the relationship between soil moisture and runoff generation at the headwater region, considering the effects of both preferential and discontinuous flow. The following objectives were achieved:(1) Continuous monitoring at the se
