Gene ybxF, a newly identified
member of the streptomycin operon of Bacillus subtilis
To examine the role of the ybxF gene, the newly
identified member of the str operon in Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus
stearothermophilus, ybxF knock-out mutant B. subtilis strains were prepared and
their viability investigated. No growth or sporulation differences between the
parental and mutant strains were detected up to now. Taking into consideration
the existence, in both organisms, of a ybxF paralogous counterpart, the gene
ymxC, the double knock-out mutant for both genes is being prepared. The ybxF
protein was overexpressed in Escherichia coli for further functional and
structural studies.
