Abstract:
We try to describe diffusion in an inhomogeneous narrow channel by a transport equation depending only on the longitudinal coordinate and time. Fick-Jacobs equation represents the simplest solution of that kind for a channel with varying cross section. We present a projection technique enabling us to calculate systematically higher-order corrections to the spatial operator of this equation.
