Mechanism of suspension in mechanically agitated vessels

  • Identification: 101/96/0340 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1996 - 1998
  • Principal investigator: Prof. Ing. František Rieger DrSc. (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, CTU)
  • Co-investigator: Ing. Václav Sinevič CSc. (Institute of Chemical Technology)
  • Co-investigator: Doc. Ing. Václav Sobolík CSc. (Institute of Chemical Processes ASCR)

The aim of the project is to propose a new complex model for particle suspension. It represents to find interactions between the system hydrodynamics and the system design parameters. The attention will be focused on standard baffled vessels and also on tall tanks with a draught tube. Experiments will be carried out for standard impellers and also for special impellers with profiled blades, the suspension efficiency of the different impellers will be compared. The measurements will be focused on velocity and rate of deformation at the vessel bottom, height of the unsuspended and suspended layers, distribution of particle concentration, off-bottom suspension speed and impeller power input. Experiments will be carried out in the wide range of particle sizes and concentrations. The results obtained will contribute to the design of the efficient equipment for mixing of suspensions and to save energy.
