Transport processes in infiltration areas

  • Identification: 103/94/0653 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1994 - 1996
  • Principal investigator: Doc. Ing. Karel Vrána CSc. (Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU)
  • Co-investigator: Doc. Ing. Pavel Kovář CSc. (Forestry Faculty, Agricultural University)

The objective of the project is to determine the principles of the protection of the quantity and quality of water resources. Physically based simulation models will be applied for evaluation of rainfall-runoff relationships in infiltration areas in watersheds that are important from the water management point of view. These relationships influence transport of sediment and chemicals. The approach to the solution should be comprehensive and systematic and should include the influence of many factors (e.g. runoff from agricultural land, runoff from forests, effect of deforestation, point and non-point sources of pollution, effect of drainage systems, influence of soil properties changes, quality of rainfall, etc.). The research team is structured to professionally cover the wide problem area. The theoretical findings and conclusions will be applied and verified at the infiltration area of the watershed of the Tichá and Divoká Orlice Rivers, where a large database of inputs is available for the project solution.
