The influence of algal organic matter (AOM) on coagulation process and separation properties of aggregates formed during water treatment

Subject of research

The research is focused on the study of influence of algogenic organic matter (AOM) on coagulation process and on separation properties of aggregates formed during water treatment. The proposed project will be solved in two phases. In the first one, there will be cultivated, isolated and characterized AOM produced by selected cyanobacteria, green algae and diatoms. Further, it will be focused on the description of differences in the composition of extracellular organic matter (EOM) and intracellularorganic matter (IOM), and on the demonstration of AOM affinity to aluminium and iron coagulants. In the second phase the research of EOM and IOM separability during water treatment under laboratory conditions will be carried out using jar optimization test (the influence of doses and type of coagulants, the influence of pH etc.). It will also study the EOM and IOM influence (depending on their content and amount) on the separation properties of aggregates formed using Couette flocculator under
