Flow behaviour of dense non-homogeneous slurries

  • Identification: IAA200600503 - Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 2005 - 2009
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Pavel Vlasák DrSc.

Subject of research

The effect of particle size distribution, particularly of colloidal and clay particles versus coarse-grained particles ratio, of physical-chemical environment, history of shearing on the slurry structure and flow behaviour will be investigated for selected stabilised and time dependent slurries. The suitable rheological and turbulent prediction models of dense non-homogeneous slurries with contents of the settling coarse-grained particles will be determined based on experimental investigation of the mutual dependency of pressure drops, flow velocity a concentration in pipes of different diameters in laminar and turbulent flow regimes. The effect of the slurry with Newtonian and non-Newtonian carrier structure on rheological parameters and laminar/turbulent transition will be studied; possibility of two-layer model implementation for stratified slurries and of flow behaviour optimisation by mechanical treatment of the slurry and change of the particle size distribution will be tested.
