Modelling of impacts of climatic changes on water reservoir management

  • Identification: 103/93/0841 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1993 - 1995
  • Principal investigator: Prof. Ing. Karel Nacházel DrSc. (Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU)
  • Co-investigator: Doc. Ing. Josef Buchtele CSc.

A projected climate warming in the range of 1,5 - 4,5°C during next decades will probably cause changes in the runoff volume in the Czech Republic and will influence the yearly runoff and soil moisture cycles there. The first aim of this proposal is to prepare and test models of the rainfall-runoff process and soil moisture with a physically sound structure, which will enable the simulation of runoff and soil moisture on the basis of possible scenarios in climatic changes or on the basis of the outputs of the global circulation models applying to the Czech Republic. Subsequently the impact of the simulated changes in the hydrological regimes on water reservoir management will be evaluated because reservoirs are, in local Czech conditions, the main and unreplaceable resources of water. The result of the project should answer the question, of how the modern technology of water resource management can contribute to the solution of the water supply problem in critical situations caused by changes in climate conditions.
