Flow structure of an impinging jet striking a flat, normally oriented surface

  • Identification: 101/96/1324 - Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1996 - 1998
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Václav Mík CSc.

Impinging jets are characterised by unusually high transfer coefficients near stagnation region. For this reason, they have found wide application in a variety of industries. Any treatment of the transfer rates under an impinging liquid jet realises upon assumptions about the flow. For the flow region of an impinging jet, many of these assumptions remain unsubstantiated by experimental evidence (impact velocity, radial flow, etc.). The objective of this project is experimentally characterise the flow region of an axisymmetric free liquid jet impinging vertically against a flat surface by measuring local velocity and turbulence level (by means of LDA) and obtain new knowledge about flow field of the impact flow and explain discrepancies of the published results.
