Removal of organic matter produced by fytoplankton (AOM) and their influence on destabilisation and aggregation processes during water purification

  • Identification: IAA200600902 - Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 2009 - 2013
  • Principal investigator: RNDr. Martin Pivokonský PhD.

The research is aimed at analysis of the influence of organic matter produced by phytoplankton (AOM) on the chemical purification of water, clarification of the mechanisms that are used at the interactions of AOM with different coagulants and at the description of the influence of these substances for the separation properties of aggregates formed during water purification. The proposed project will be carried out in two consecutive phases. The first phase will be directed at isolation and characterisation of the organic matter produced by selected species of cyanobacteria, green algae and diatoms. The second phase of the project will be directed at investigating the possibilities for the removal of AOM (influence of type and dosage of coagulant, influence of pH, etc.) and on research of influence of AOM (quantity and composition dependent) on the separation properties of aggregates formed under different conditions of agitation (intensity and time of agitation).
