Influence of the land-use changes on the soil water regime, soil water quality and vegetation diversity

  • Identification: A3060701 - Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
  • Duration: 1997 - 1999
  • Principal investigator: Ing. Miloslav Šír CSc. (Ústav pro hydrodynamiku)

The present project deals with the assessment of the influence of the alternative methods of the permanent grassland maintenance on soil water regime, soil water quality and vegetation diversity when the wet atmospheric deposition is considered. A reduction of agricultural activities leads to the searching for the suitable alternative way of the secondary grassland maintenance in relation to the locality elevation. The cutting of the meadows without collecting and removal the organic matter seems to be a suitable way of this maintenance. The present project will be focused on the experimental research and its evaluation when the above-mentioned agricultural technique is applied in a mountainous region of the Šumava National Park. This experimental research area is very important both from ecological and hydrological viewpoints. The main attention will be paid to the soil water regime under the unsaturated conditions. The authors of the present project intend to take advantage of the running long-term research of the observation, evaluation and modelling of the soil water regime in this region. The long-term data series are available for the purposes of this project.
