Left handed materials - structures with negative index of refraction

Abstract:
Left handed materials are man-made structures which possess, in a given frequency interval, negative effective permittivity and permeability. Experiments of D.R. Smith confirmed that such materials possess also negative index of refraction.
I give a short review of electro-magnetic properties of left-handed materials, describe methods of numerical analysis of transmission of electromagnetic waves through such materials and discuss their possible applications (perfect lens).
