WZW and Sine- Gordon models in string theory

Abstract:
String theory is a candidate for GUT. Its basics are generalization of kinematics in general theory of relativity, the so called sigma- models. Invariance in quantum approach requires adding WZW term, which has its importance also in nonquantum sigma- models. The lecture comprises basic notions of sigma- models, WZW and Sine- Gordon models. The connection to other parts of mathematics are shown. Gauging of this models yields new models and conditions coming from physics, e.g. Wittens conditions.
