The Power of Succession. The Role of Soil Animals in Succession

Rusek J.

The author continues to assess the importance of individual groups of soil animals for soil formation and for the succession of various humus types on bank spoils 15 to 84 year old, with extreme substrates from a North Moravian chemical plant. Humus analysis on soil sections is a significant research tool. Over 84 years of primary succession, a humus layer almost 10 cm in depth has been formed. Due to the absence of some soil organisms, e.g. the anectic earthworm species, and clay minerals, the humus has somewhat less diversified structure.
