Bristleworms or polychaetes (Polychaeta) are invertebrate animals of various colours and forms. They are a large, extremely diverse group, being the most species-rich annelid class. Most of them live in marine and coastal habitats. Many species also occur in the Adriatic Sea where both sedentary species, which filtrate the water (e.g., featherduster worms), and active, mobile and predatory species can be found (e.g., free-living errant worms from the family Nereidae).
