In Search of the Biggest European Fern

Ekrt L.

In biotopes at the boundary of temperate and subtropical latitudes, the biomes of moist mesothermal climate forests can be locally found, distinguished by a great diversity of fern species. The ornamental fern Woodwardia radicans from the family Blechnaceae is probably the tallest European species, the leaves of which can reach up to 3.8 m in length in favourable conditions.
