About the Postgraduate Course:

How to Apply for UNESCO/IUPAC Course:

The Course 2004/2005
  • Postgraduate Course in Polymer Science under the auspices and support of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) has been organized in our Institute since 1996. Over the years, about more than 70 young researchers from different countries participated in UNESCO/IUPAC Courses (see archive) and contributed to a number of scientific projects.
  • View the list of publications authored or co-authored by Course participants together with researchers from IMC.
  • The Course begins on October 1 every year and lasts ten months. The program is open to young researchers who obtained their degrees (MS, PhD or equivalent) in the corresponding field of science not more than five years ago. The applicants should be under 35, preferably under 30.
  • The participant of the UNESCO/IUPAC Course joins a current research project led by an experienced supervisor from the Institute (for research program of the Institute, see http://www.imc.cas.cz). Preliminary contact with the potential supervisor is recommended. The participant is obliged to attend a series of lectures on various topics of polymer science given by Institute specialists.
  • The official language of the Course is English; hence, good command of English is a necessary condition for admittance.
  • The participants receive monthly scholarship of 7 300 CZK.
  • In addition, the Institute offers free accommodation in an Academy hotel (see Hotel Mazanka).
  • The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic covers the basic health insurance. The Institute cannot contribute to any travel expenses. The fees for Czech visa, however, will be reimbursed.
  • Send the letter of application with CV and one or two letters of recommendation from renowned scientists to Prof. Karel Ulbrich, the Director of the Institute.
  • The deadline for application for the 2008/2009 Course - February 22, 2008
