The Týn Court and Medieval Prague – edition

In the history of Prague, the Týn enclosure, once the suzerain´s institution for commercial administration of the Prague marketplace , embodies a stage when the right-bank suburban area underwent a transformation into a fully fledged medieval municipal community. The vigour of the transformation process, which took a turn distincly tending towards the constitution of the Old Town of Prague, is reflected in archaeological evidence first and foremost by transformation of the local settlement pattern and buildup of a new urban layout comprising centripetal communications streaming towards its gravity centre at the present Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square).

The project develops the contribution of archaeological excavations preceding the revitalization of the Týn enclosure one of the most thoroughly investigated archaeological areas within the inner city of Prague, which have gone on for ten years. The project is to result in a summary publication of the results of archaeological excavations, continuing the grant project No. 404/97/0723, awarded by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic.
