The group of Advanced Materials Structures belongs to the Department of Metals at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The main objective is to conduct basic research in the field of bulk metallic materials with unique structure. They include materials with extremely fine grains (ultra fine-grained and nanocrystalline) and well-defined structures (single crystals and derived forms: oriented bicrystals and tricrystals). The research is focused on both preparation of the advanced materials structures formed under special conditions and their characterisation.
The materials with unique structure offer major improvements in functional properties. This, in turn, results in broad range of engineering applications. Such advanced structural materials are of great importance for a multitude of industrial uses in automotive, aerospace, consumer products, medicine and mechanical engineering.
