The author describes the origin and evolution of endocochleate cephalopods (Coleoidea), using changes in their morphology and anatomy (in particular, in the internal shell and its individuals parts) as an example. In the first part of the contribution, he deals in general terms with the animal group and presents their body structure and the evolution of extinct fossil groups, e.g. belemnites.
