Plants and Stressors from Prehistoric up to Present Times - 1

Möllerová J., Zieglerová J.

The characteristics of an individual are generally formed by its genetic character, and changes appear under the selective pressure of the environment. Only some individuals survive and the genetic characteristics of the population are thus gradually changing. Phylogeny - the evolutionary history of the species ought to be repeated in ontogenesis - the development of an individual according to biogenetic law. In plants, such repetition is much less frequent than in animals. A knowledge of their development can be obtained from palaeobotany.
