The buprestid Eurythyrea quercus is a critically endangered European beetle. Its larvae can only develop in the wood of centuries–old oak trees. The females sometimes seek tree trunks without bark and bathed in sunshine or branches with significantly damaged cover, caused e.g. by the Great Capricorn Beetle (Cerambyx cerdo) larvae, to lay and hide eggs. Among xylophagous jewel beetle species, this behaviour is unusual.
