Nepenthes of the Philippines. Sibuyan Island

Rybková R., Rybka V.

In Sibuyan Island, relatively isolated from the other Philippine islands, altitudinal vegetation zonation in the inland mountains is conserved in a unique way (the highest peak is 2,058 m above sea level). The first Nepenthes species (Nepenthes mirabilis) can be found at 400 m above sea-level. The endemic species Nepenthes sibuyanensis, described in 1998, grows at 1,200 m above sea level. Its captive organs are up to 20 cm high, and their upper and lower parts are of different shape. The highest altitudes are appropriate localities for even more important species - N. argentii, which is the smallest known Nepenthes species in the world.
