New Guinea and its adjacent seas are inhabited by more than 250 known reptile species. In this part of the series of articles, individual species of turtles and tortoises, crocodiles and particularly lizards are presented. Among them, skinks (Scincidae) with more than 190 species, occurring in all ecosystem types, are considered the most important there.
