Plants of the Galeobdolon genus with yellow flowers, similar to deadnettles, are not an easy group from the taxonomical point of view. Their area of distribution covers Europe (except the northernmost and southernmost parts) and Asia Minor up to the Caucasus foothills. On the basis of contemporary (literature) references, four to five species can be distinguished, three of which are growing on Czech territory, two of them as original species (G. luteum and G. montanum) and one ornamental species (G. argentatum) growing as an escape species in the wild. Extensive cytometric research of more than 1,000 plants from seven European countries has contributed to critical evaluation of this group.
