Effects of the 2008 Great Sichuan Earthquake on the Giant Panda Habitat and Population

In May 2008 an intense earthquake hit the Chinese province of Sichuan. Ecosystems harbour-ing the Giant Panda's (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) key habitats were also significantly affected. Chinese scientists tried to assess its impact on the Giant Panda population and habitats. Their recommendations have been included in general restoration and development plans for the earthquake-hit area.
