Approx. 10 - 5 million years ago, climate changes in eastern Africa caused selection pressure on hominids, which resulted in the development of bipedalism with a series of anatomical adaptations in these primates. Thus 7 - 1 million years ago, some bipedical forms belonging to the genus Orrorin, Sahelanthropus, Kenyanthropus, Ardipithecus, Australopithecus and Paranthropus lived there.
