New Evidence of the Origin of Birds II. An Example of Mosaic Evolution

Fejfar O.

Findings of the earliest birds and their ancestors from the Jurassic period have previously been missing. From the Cretaceous period there is increasing new evidence of birds (e.g., Iberomesornis, Eoalulavis, Confuciusornis, Liaoningornis, Ichthyornis, etc.) as well as of related, but independent lineages of theropod dinosaurs (e.g., Sinosauropteryx, Caudipteryx, Protoarchaeopteryx) with some so-called bird features (feathers, hind legs), which confirm their mosaic evolution (mixture of ancient and modern features).
