Since When Have Nature and the Landscape Been Nice? A History of the Aesthetic Perception of Nature in Europe I.

Stibral K.

p. 2-4
The article brings an outline of the historical development of nature perception as one of the specific attitudes to nature and landscape in modern European culture. It deals with the absence of this perception in certain historical periods, such as the Ancient World and Middle Ages. The development is described on the basis of historical examples of aesthetic texts or pieces of art (especially landscape paintings), underlining parallels and inspirations from natural sciences, particularly biology.
