Effects of Maternal Love at a Molecular Level

Paleček E.

Maternal care influences the development of young individuals in many organisms. Recently published results (I.C.G. Weaver et al., Nature Neuroscience 2004:1), which are very interesting and quite unique, provide information on the effects of the education of young ones on molecular receptors, which monitor the level of their stress hormones in the brain. This investigation also proved that the epigenetic state of a gene can be formed as a consequence of programmed behaviour and can be potentially reversible.
