Surprisingly, occurrence of the Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis) was not confirmed in the Czech Republic until the late 20th century. It only inhabits a few small sites near Štramberk (North Moravia), fully isolated from its continuous distribution range. For example, the authors estimate the Štramberk population size in their research. The density of the population studied, ranging from 47 to 55 individuals/hectare, is lower than those in populations from the continuous distribution range.
