The spitting spider (Scytodes thoracica) commonly occurs in southern Europe. Before 1997, only two specimens were found in the Czech Republic. At present, it is known only from rare findings in the country, often synanthropic. The author describes the finding of two specimens in a building in the Kolín region of Central Bohemia. Scytodidae is the only family among spiders that produces sticky fibres for hunting the prey through their chelicerae.
